Why
Kajoetangan Kampoeng?
Kayutangan Kampoeng is located in Kauman Village, Malang City. During the Dutch colonial era, the name Kayutangan was immortalized as the name of a street, “Kajoetanganstraat.” There are four theories regarding the origin of the name Kayutangan.
The first theory is that before 1914, there was a wooden traffic sign in the shape of a hand located east of the intersection of Oro-Oro Dowo Street (now B.S. Riadi Street) and Kayutangan Street (now General Basuki Rahmat Street). Because the sign was made of wood and shaped like a hand, the road leading to Malang's City Square at that time was named Kayutangan.
Kayutangan Kampoeng is one of the oldest neighborhoods that has transformed into a tourist destination in the heart of Malang City. This thematic tourist village, officially inaugurated by the Malang City Government on April 22, 2018, is culturally based and offers the authenticity of the kampoeng along with its historical relics, buildings, cuisine, and the social and cultural life of its people. The area holds various regional potentials that serve as its attractions. The potential of Kayutangan Kampoeng can be mapped into five categories: historical and old building tours, religious sites, culinary and commercial activities, river exploration, as well as events and activities.
